No logical conclusion in journalist assault case
ITANAGAR, Mar 11: Even after a lapse of three months, the trial of the accused in the infamous journalist assault case is yet to reach a logical conclusion with the investigating officer (IO) awaiting prosecution sanction from the respective department for filing a chargesheet.
Nyapi Bomjen and Appu Gapak of The Sentinel Arunachal were assaulted on duty by a IRBn personnel on December 12 last at Pappu Nallah. The incident evoked strong protests from the media fraternity, who had resorted to a pen down strike sending shockwaves throughout the state.
Hina Tada, the accused who was absconding for almost a week, later surrendered before the police on December 20 with an anticipatory bail in hand.
“We are awaiting a prosecution sanction against the accused from IRBN Commandant, which was requested of him almost a month back,” informed investigating officer N Lali.
The prosecution letter is necessary from the employer of the accused without which no chargesheet can be filed for conducting trial, the officer added.
The case, which began with a bang pace initially, now has retarded and waiting for the nod of judiciary, which in the state dismal as usual.
“As per the clauses of law a person is not supposed to get anticipatory bail if he is absconding before arrest. But ironically Tada was awarded the same in doubtful circumstances,” a lawyer said.
Even the accused was never arrested; he had surrendered armed with the anticipatory bail. Moreover, the Test Identification (TI) Parade on January 5 last was also conducted under suspicious circumstances, which is not according to prescribed laws, the lawyer added.
“There’s no point in conducting TI Parade after fifteen days of the surrender of the accused. It has to be done immediately or the next day,” he added.
As alleged, there is also a discrepancy on the hearing of bail plea of Tada which was conducted on January 31st last for which the IO was not intimated.
“I was not intimated by the court on the hearing of the bail plea of Tada,” Lali admitted. “Lapses cannot be ruled out in any cases and this one is not an exception. No case in Arunachal ends with cent percent justice,” commented a senior lawyer.
Yupia Session Judge, Nani Grayu, who granted anticipatory bail to the accused, when contacted declined to comment on the circumstances under which he granted anticipatory bail to Tada.
Meanwhile, the media fraternity is not taking the delay in trial of the case lightly. Frustration is brewing up and it wouldn’t be a surprise if it declares another series of agitation demanding justice.
Now, it is to be seen whether the court will go for a speedy trial to dissuade the media fraternity from keeping away from further agitations.
Threat not favorable for peace: ATSU
ITANAGAR, Mar 11: All Tirap Students’ Union (ATSU) has expressed deep concern over the NSCN threat and said that it is unethical and unacceptable which may be detrimental towards ushering peace in the two districts. ATSU said that it should not be in political benefits or political game to be in power and also questioned the Govt. of Arunachal Pradesh why every time the leaders and the people of Tirap and Changlang are victimized and sandwiched for no fault of theirs ?
The legislators are democratically elected and representing the people of their respective constituency for development, the Union said and appealed all the legislators of Tirap district to work properly for all round development for the district.

KALAKTANG, Mar 11: Lossar festival was celebrated at Kalaktang with religious fervor and traditional gaiety today.
Addressing the mammoth gathering on the occasion, Chief Minister said “Transition in the form of development is must but at the same time we need to make sure that our rich cultural ethos are equally preserved and passed on to the younger generation”.
Lamenting the gradual disinterest shown by the youth over learning and preservation of the rich tradition, culture and ancestral language, Khandu called the elders to guide the young so that they are well conversed with the rites and rituals. He batted for documentation of the customary laws and also stressed for showcasing the unique cultural identity of the state to the outer world.
Khandu sounded very loud over social responsibility to be shouldered by the people. While he urged the people to maintain and safeguard the public property, he emphasized for a plastic free Arunachal Pradesh and urged all to take the task on a missionary zeal. The chief minister further dwelt on length on the hydro power and tourism potentials of the state and stressed on the need to rightly harness it for the state’s economic sustenance. He also informed the gathering about massive developmental activities undertaken by his government in the state.
MP Takam Sanjoy while wishing the gathering a very happy and prosperous new year said that every individual in the state should take a resolution that they will preserve and protect wildlife.
Making amply clear that the legislators, MPs and the common people would always support and stand for chief minister Dorjee Khandu, Sanjoy said that the people of the state would not allow any force to interfere in the matter of state’s development. Arunachal Pradesh is in the fast track of development under the leadership of CM Dorjee Khandu and the way the developmental activities are under taken, the state is soon to achieve many milestones, Sanjoy emphatically said.
Parliamentary Secretary Kumar Waii pitched on preservation of forest and wild life. He categorically called the people to shift the Jhum cultivation practice to wet cultivation so that burning of forest and clearing of jungles could be avoided.

Arunachal designer shines at Mumbai fashion event

ITANAGAR, Mar 11: In yet another instance of local talent from Arunachal Pradesh receiving accolades and appreciation, designer Yana Ngoba got a thunderous applause from the audience after displaying her attractive collection of clothing at the “Magical Threads of the North East" apparel show held recently at Mumbai. The event was organized by the Fashion Society of Shillong at the Meghalaya House in collaboration with the Directorate of Sericulture and Weaving with the main motive of showcasing the handloom heritage of the northeast.
The choicest designers of the NE region were handpicked to showcase the weaves of the region and featured Ngoba for Arunachal Pradesh and Tripura, Duncan Kharmon for Assam and Meghalaya, Charlie for Mizoram, Premjit Salam for Manipur, Rosou Thri for Nagaland and Suman Chettri for Sikkim. The models were also representative of the different states.
"Weavers from villages have been creating traditional apparels ever since people started wearing them. But we never got a chance to display their work to people from other states. This fashion show is meant to bring our rich weaving culture to a larger audience. Models were seen wearing Paat and Eri varieties, the famed muga silk of Assam and dharas and dakmandas of Meghalaya, lohi and lungtensu shawls of Nagaland, puan and ngotekherh of Mizoram, bokhu and honju of Sikkim, gale and other traditional attires of Arunachal Pradesh, rigwnai and risa of Tripura and the phanek and phee of Manipur" said Aldous Mawlong, Chairman of the Fashion Society of Shillong and also of the Northeast Forum for Indigenous Culture and Arts.
Reacting to the overwhelming response of the audience to her collection, Ngoba said, "For this fashion show, we have displayed clothing from tribes of the state and modified it so that people can wear it even on an everyday basis". In her presentation one could witness a lot of innovation where traditional fabrics were complemented with jewellery from the state which included bangles, bracelets and necklaces. Ngoba, who started designing at a very early age and who is today known as one of the innovative designers of the region, said that the purpose of the fashion show was to make people from all over India become aware of the clothing heritage of the region.
"Merchandising and mar¬keting have been recognized as being central to the growth and development of the handloom sector in India. Domestic marketing is im¬portant for providing links be¬tween the producer and the consumer. Such events promote the marketing of handlooms in the country and in order to create publicity and awareness about the weaves and handlooms of the northeast, we wanted to hard sell the hitherto inaccessible prod¬ucts by hosting a show like this," added Mawlong.

Seminar on ‘challenges on municipal solid waste management
ITANAGAR, Mar 11: ENVIRON, an NGO working on solid waste management in North Eastern region is also working on project for solid waste management for Clean and Green Itanagar in association with Capital District Administration. The project is sponsored by NABARD, Itanagar.
The ENVIRON have already constructed a “Model Vermicompost Unit” in D N College, Itanagar, which will be a demonstration unit cum training centre for entire Arunachal Pradesh. Moreover, technology that adopted for collection of “Vermin Wash” is the first of kind in whole India.
To highlight the Project and facilitate mass participation in waste management, the ENVIRON have organized a seminar in D N College, Itanagar on “Challenges on Municipal Solid waste Management, an analysis of Pilot Project on awareness and primary implementation of the Municipal Waste Management in Itanagar” today. AAYA opposes convention centre in IG Park
ITANAGAR, Mar 11: All Arunachal Youth Association (AAYA) has opposed construction of Convention Centre at Indira Gandhi Park saying that such a mega project to be constructed at an estimated cost of Rs.30 crore will require huge area which will reduce the area of the park.
If constructed, the park will suffer extensive damage to its plantations, including the tall and ornamental trees, AAYA said while advocating for preservation of the lone recreational park in capital complex. It appealed to the Governor to intervene in this matter and instruct the department concerned to find alternative land for the purposes.

Power supply restored
ITANAGAR, Mar 11: The power supply to East Siang District which was disrupted on March 9 following heavy cyclonic storm at Aalo was restored on March 10. Yet again another cyclonic storm with heavy rainfall struck the district in the evening same day causing disruption to power supply to the district. However, restoration has been done and the district is getting power supply now. This was informed by the Executive Engineer (E), Pasighat Electrical Division in a release today.
The department deeply regrets for the inconvenience caused due to such power failure. However, the release said the department is duty bound to maintain proper power supply to consumers and shall be at public service at its best.

A wake up call

I may appear to be an anti government which in fact I’m not nor my contentions are voices of opposition; almost certainly it should be understood as rest of the political parties in the state. I wouldn’t question the integrity of the present system of the state government to be considered as a fool to look for something in something which is not there. I’m just so shocked that people can become slave and could even sell their own family members for lustrous paper call money. I can only say none of you are less than the other in corrupt efforts. I hear snobbish noise shouted by chief minister’s personal guards when they try to bark their lung out in traffic highway which undoubtedly become a nuisance for any cultured individual trying best to obey traffic rules.
It is easy to sit at home and come up with our own argument that NSCN (K) is wide of the mark, I do trust certain views but nothing in this universe just happens, law of inertia could be a good case in point. The question in this matter is who is the hitchhiker? If the government have the answer than I dare to pronounce that NSCN (K) is a threat not only to the legislators but to every single individual trying to contribute a better shape to the society. Today, no officer positioned of course in the high posts can dare clarify to give an authentic utilization certificate; you know why? You’re good enough and I don’t think I should teach you a for apple.
The council of legislators who are already thinking to bring change for real development is our only hope. I’m sure our state which has become a giant movie theater studio would soon discontinue sleep.

A new low
Dear Editor,
It is really disheartening to know that District Congress Committee of Tirap and Changlang appealed to the NSCN(K) to reconsider their ultimatum served to the Ministers and MLA of the districts to withdraw support from Khandu Government, published in your daily on March 11. This would be the one of the most shameful day in the history of Arunachal Pradesh. Indian Nation Congress being the ruling political party, the party who formed the Government of Arunachal Pradesh, pleading before the terrorist is one of the most degraded step taken so far. One cannot imagine the party who brought independence to India following the principles of Mahatma Gandhi would ever beg a terrorist organization for mercy and consideration. If the political leaders themselves go on pleading the terrorist organizations for mercy then forget about the life security of the common people. District Congress Committee of Tirap and Changlang should know that their silly deed would tarnish the image of the party.
If the ultimatum is a real one then it’s the time for the political leaders to prove that they worth being elected. This is not the time to beg mercy but this is the time to show courage and leadership. Let’s hope all our leaders would live up to our expectation by removing fear and terror not only from their mind but also from the mind of the common people.

It’s my duty to tell the brethren of Arunachal what the NSCN' makes us do.
They make us guard the village from all quarters turn by turn day and night, collect rice, buy potato and dal ,chicken and slaughter pig if they see some healthy pig.
They collect tax from every household. They make us carry their bags loaded with bullets and to be their gun shield.
If anyone dares to speak against them, they directly shoot.
They have killed so many of our fellow brethren but the press was not informed.
People of Tirap and Changlang are really suffering. We are Noctes, Wanchoes, Tangsas, Tutsas of Arunachcal Pradesh.

Prelude to the lawless society

As a concerned citizen, I am much worried about the pathetic political condition of the state. There is no strong will of the politicians to fight back the crisis. If today the fate of Arunachal politics is determined by the outlaws then it will be the best career for every individual to join underground outfit and give diktat to the govt because govt easily bow down before such groups rather than democratic demands.
